Authorities responsible for monitoring the situation on the Bóbr River published the latest update on 19 July concerning the measures being carried out and the results of inspections. According to the information provided, monitoring conducted by PGW Wody Polskie and local services found no dead fish.

At the same time, in accordance with the recommendation of expert Dr Bogdan Wziątek and following consultations with the Polish Angling Association, the number of devices aerating the water was increased. There are currently four aerators operating on the river – two in Marczów and two near the Pilchowice II Hydroelectric Power Plant.

Continuous monitoring of the river is under way

As reported, continuous monitoring of water parameters is being carried out at the Rakowice and Pilchowice II weirs. The installed probes continuously check oxygenation levels and temperature, making it possible to respond quickly to any changes.

Authorities also emphasize that the Bóbr riverbed along the section from the Pilchowice Dam to the Rakowice Small Hydroelectric Power Plant remains unobstructed. Inspections found no accumulation of sediment or blockages that could hinder the free flow of water.

Tap water remains safe

The update also reassured residents using the water supply network. The supplied water meets all quality requirements for water intended for human consumption and remains safe.

As explained, the water supply system relies exclusively on deep-water intakes that are independent of the Bóbr River’s surface waters.

Sanitary authorities on water quality in the river

According to the Voivodeship Sanitary and Epidemiological Station, the microbiological quality of water in the Bóbr remains stable. The parameters comply with or are close to the requirements applicable to waters at bathing sites and places occasionally used for bathing.

The next sampling is scheduled for 20 July. Tests will be carried out at three locations: Nielestno, Małe Rakowice and Małe Włodzice.

The ban remains in force

Despite the positive results of the monitoring conducted so far, authorities remind residents that Regulation No. 18 of the Lower Silesian Voivode of 4 July 2026 remains in force.

The ban applies to the section of the Bóbr from the crest of the Pilchowice Dam to the Rakowice Reservoir and covers:

  • entering the water and bathing,
  • watering animals,
  • recreational and commercial fishing,
  • using the water for commercial purposes,
  • using watercraft.

As emphasized in the update, the decision to lift the restrictions will be made only when the relevant authorities are fully certain that there is no threat to people’s health and safety.

Authorities assure residents that the situation on the Bóbr is being continuously monitored and that further information will be provided on an ongoing basis together with the results of the next tests.
