The incident took place on the grounds of one of Bolesławiec’s secondary schools. As reported by the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters, the man was riding a bicycle and, while passing through, broke off the arm of the barrier securing the entrance to the facility. After damaging the device, he left the scene, paying no attention to the damage caused.
The course of the incident was recorded by surveillance cameras. The footage enabled criminal department officers to establish the perpetrator’s identity and conclude the proceedings.
The 53-year-old was charged with damaging property worth nearly PLN 2,000. Police reported that the suspect admitted to committing the alleged offense.
Officers point out that this was not the first instance of the same barrier being damaged in similar circumstances. They also remind the public that leaving the scene does not release the perpetrator from criminal liability or the obligation to repair the damage caused.
Under the law, damaging property is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
