The incident occurred in the Nowogrodziec municipality while responding to a call concerning a man in need of medical assistance. The paramedics were performing their duties and transporting the patient from his apartment to the ambulance.
At that time, a 39-year-old resident of the municipality in question approached one of the paramedics. He began making threats to take the medic’s life and then violated his bodily integrity by pushing him.
According to the police findings, the attacker demanded that medical assistance be provided to his friend and that he be taken to hospital. He failed to notice that the paramedics were carrying out medical procedures on a patient who required assistance.
Based on the information gathered, the officers established the perpetrator’s identity. The 39-year-old was detained by criminal division officers from Bolesławiec and then brought to the Police Station in Nowogrodziec, where procedural activities were carried out with him. The next step was to bring the suspect before the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec.
The man was charged with making criminal threats and violating the bodily integrity of a public official while performing official duties. Due to his previous convictions, he will be held liable as a repeat offender. The offenses he is accused of carry a penalty of up to 4 years and 6 months’ imprisonment.
The prosecutor imposed preventive measures on the 39-year-old. They include police supervision, a ban on approaching the injured paramedic and a ban on contacting him.
It is worth recalling that paramedics are legally protected as public officials while performing their duties. Attacking or making threats against people providing assistance may result in criminal liability.
