An indictment has been filed against a 55-year-old resident of Legnica. According to investigators, the woman participated in ‘police officer’ scams in which two elderly residents of Jelenia Góra were victims.

As reported by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, the accused allegedly acted jointly and in agreement with other people who have not yet been identified. According to the investigation’s findings, the perpetrators contacted the elderly women by telephone, posing as police officers.

During the conversations, they convinced the women that their savings were at risk and that, to secure them, they should hand over the cash to a person indicated by the callers. In reality, the money went to the fraudsters.

Two elderly women defrauded on the same day

The first victim was an 88-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra. The woman handed over PLN 3,000 to a person who came to collect the money.

The same day, an 86-year-old woman also fell victim to the crime. Following the callers’ instructions, she withdrew PLN 40,000 from the bank and then handed over the cash at an agreed location on Bankowa Street in Jelenia Góra.

The accused has denied guilt

The 55-year-old resident of Legnica denied committing the acts of which she was accused and gave an explanation. The offenses with which she is charged carry a sentence of 6 months to 8 years in prison. She had previously been convicted of offenses against property. She is awaiting the start of the trial in pre-trial detention.

The investigation is ongoing

The proceedings have not been concluded with regard to all the people involved in the case. The materials concerning the other, as yet unidentified perpetrators were separated into separate proceedings.

Investigators stress that the case is developing. Activities are ongoing to identify additional victims and to identify and arrest the remaining people who may have participated in the ‘police officer’ scams.
