A 43-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County found out how serious the consequences can be for significantly exceeding the speed limit. The man was stopped by officers from the Traffic Division of the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec.

The check took place in a built-up area. The officers measured the speed of the passenger car driven by the 43-year-old. As the police determined, the vehicle was travelling at nearly 110 km/h.

What was particularly dangerous was that the driver was travelling at such a high speed near a pedestrian crossing. In such places, even a moment of inattention can lead to road incidents with tragic consequences.

Because the driver exceeded the speed limit by more than 50 km/h in a built-up area, the officers confiscated his driving licence for three months. However, the consequences did not end there.

The 43-year-old was fined PLN 1,500. His record was also increased by 13 penalty points.

The police once again remind drivers that excessive speed remains one of the main causes of the most serious road accidents. Officers appeal to drivers to observe the applicable limits and exercise particular caution, especially near pedestrian crossings, where the safety of vulnerable road users should be a priority.
