During joint operations by a district officer and officers from the Traffic Department, police stopped a passenger car for inspection because its technical condition raised their doubts. Two men were inside the vehicle.
Intoxicating substances were found on both men. The driver was a 41-year-old resident of Bolesławiec, known to the police for previous drug-related offences. Officers secured marijuana and methamphetamine in his backpack. The man claimed that the substances were intended for his personal use.
That was not the end of the matter. A drug test also showed that the 41-year-old had been driving the car under the influence of intoxicating substances. It was additionally established that he did not have the required driving entitlements.
Police also found intoxicating substances in the wallet of the 31-year-old passenger. Both Bolesławiec residents were detained and charged with drug possession.
The 41-year-old driver faces a longer list of charges. In addition to possession of intoxicating substances, he will also be held responsible for driving under the influence of drugs and driving without the required entitlements.
Police remind the public that possession of intoxicating substances is punishable by up to 3 years in prison. Driving under the influence of substances that have effects similar to alcohol is also a criminal offence punishable by up to 3 years in prison. The court may additionally impose a driving ban and severe financial penalties.
