A dangerous road incident occurred in Zgorzelec municipality over the past weekend. According to the officers’ preliminary findings, a 48-year-old German citizen riding a Honda motorcycle was making a U-turn. He failed to yield to a Mercedes that was travelling correctly, driven by a 28-year-old man.
The vehicles collided. The 40-year-old motorcycle passenger was injured. The woman was transported to hospital.
Police confirmed that both the motorcyclist and the car driver were sober. All the circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated.
Officers point out that the holiday period brings significantly heavier traffic on the roads. There are more motorcyclists, cyclists and tourists travelling by car, which increases the risk of dangerous situations.
Police appeal to motorcycle riders to always make sure, before performing manoeuvres such as U-turns, turning or changing lanes, that they can do so safely and without creating a hazard for other road users.
At the same time, officers remind car drivers of the need to exercise particular caution around two-wheeled vehicles. Motorcycles are smaller and may be more difficult to see, especially while manoeuvres are being performed.
Police stress that road safety depends on the responsible behaviour of all road users. A moment of inattention or failure to comply with regulations can lead to serious consequences, so it is important to exercise caution and ensure that holiday journeys proceed safely.
