Officers from the Traffic Division of the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec carried out intensified activities aimed at removing from the roads drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating substances.
During the operation, officers tested the sobriety of more than 400 drivers. The vast majority of drivers were sober; however, one test detected the presence of alcohol.
The detention took place before 7:00 a.m. Police checked the driver of a passenger car. A breathalyser test showed that the 50-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County had 0.6‰ of alcohol in his system.
The man lost his driving licence, and officers prevented him from continuing to drive. The court will now decide his further fate.
Driving a vehicle while intoxicated is punishable by up to 3 years in prison. The court may also impose a long-term ban on driving motor vehicles, as well as significant financial obligations and a fine.
Police remind drivers that even a small amount of alcohol reduces concentration, lengthens reaction time and significantly increases the risk of causing an accident. Officers announce further sobriety checks aimed at improving road safety in Bolesławiec County.
