In the first six months of 2026, an increase was recorded on the roads of Bolesławiec County in the number of cases involving driving under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating substances. Data provided by the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec show that there were more such proceedings than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
In response to questions from our editorial team, the police reported that in the first half of 2026, 71 preparatory proceedings were initiated under Article 178a of the Criminal Code. By comparison, there were 64 during the same period in 2025.
This represents an increase. It is worth emphasizing, however, that the data provided by the police concern the number of preparatory proceedings initiated, not the number of roadside checks carried out or all drivers detained.
We also asked whether, with the start of the summer holidays, residents of Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County can expect a greater number of sobriety checks on the roads.
According to the police, activities of this kind are organized regularly. The most recent intensified sobriety-check operation was conducted on the day the school year ended, while further activities have been planned for the near future.
Police remind the public that the summer holiday period is a time of increased traffic on the roads. Officers regularly conduct checks of drivers’ sobriety to remove from traffic people who drive vehicles under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating substances and pose a threat to other road users.
If you are planning to travel in the coming days, it is worth remembering that sobriety checks may be carried out both on major routes and on local roads in Bolesławiec, as well as throughout Bolesławiec County.
