Last week, the duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski received a report from a man who had come across a metal object partially buried in the ground in Radłówka. The appearance of the artifact caused the finder considerable concern.

According to the report, the man suspected that he might be dealing with unexploded ordnance. He even claimed to see an element resembling a detonator and did not rule out the possibility that the object was part of a mine.

Before contacting the services, however, he decided to carry out a preliminary analysis himself. He photographed the find and used an artificial-intelligence-based tool to identify it.

The result? The answer he received did little to reassure him. On the contrary, it increased his concerns. The application concluded that the object could be connected with remnants of wartime activity from the period of World War II.

After the report was received, an officer from the Non-Establishment Mine and Pyrotechnic Reconnaissance Group was sent to the scene. The police officer assessed the find and confirmed that there was no danger. Consequently, there was no need to deploy a bomb-disposal team or take further action to secure unexploded ordnance.

As junior aspirant lwowecki.info Olga Łukaszewicz Olga Łukaszewicz, press spokeswoman for the Lwówek police, told the website, the object turned out to be... a fragment of an old kerosene lamp.

The story from Radłówka shows that although tools using artificial intelligence are becoming increasingly common and often help with everyday tasks, they are not free from errors. When identifying unusual objects or potential hazards, their answers should be treated only as a guide, not as a definitive diagnosis.

Unexploded ordnance remains dangerous!

Police remind the public that when objects resembling unexploded ordnance or misfired ammunition are found, particular caution should be exercised. They must not be moved, dug up or secured independently. The safest solution is to notify the services, which will assess the situation and take appropriate action.
