As the Bolesławiec municipal authorities reported yesterday:
In response to residents’ requests and needs, the construction of a new sidewalk has been planned on Starzyńskiego Street. It will significantly improve the safety of pedestrians moving around the nearby clinics and the Dino store. Residents, seniors, families with children, and people using medical and retail services visit this location every day.
The sidewalk will be built as part of cooperation between the City of Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County. The former will allocate PLN 50,000 for this purpose, while the latter will contribute half as much. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year.
Let us recall that we covered this issue in the spring. After we described a report concerning the chaos near the Dino store and the clinic on Starzyńskiego Street (and the fact that a woman narrowly escaped a car), another Reader contacted us:
I read (...) the article (...) about the situation that occurred today outside the Dino store on Starzyńskiego Street.
And he sent us his correspondence with Dino’s Customer Service Office from… February this year. He commented on the response as follows:
They know perfectly well what the situation is and that it is dangerous for pedestrians who shop at Dino.
According to the material sent by the Reader, a Dino employee replied that the chain was very sorry about the incident and that the report was to be forwarded to the relevant department. What was done with that report is unknown.
What is more, on the day we published the article about the chaos near the store in question, we officially asked both the Dino chain and the road manager about the matter. Despite reminders, unfortunately, to this day we have received no response from either entity.
At the end of March, we reported that we had received the following message from a Reader:
Could your editorial team look into a very pressing problem that arose when a medical clinic opened next to Dino on Starzyńskiego Street? The matter is particularly important today because dangerous situations are occurring increasingly often on the access road to the Dino parking lot. I myself witnessed one of the women avoid being hit by a car only thanks to her reflexes (this was not an isolated incident). Frightened, she jumped onto the barriers and thereby avoided an accident.
And he added: – Patients from all over Lower Silesia arrive at the clinic via the parking lot mentioned above. There is generally little room left for Dino customers.
He also added:
Cars also park on the access road, making passage very difficult, and I will not even mention the customers moving around.
He also emphasized: “The danger is growing and nobody is doing anything about it. We are already so close to a tragedy. Who will bear the consequences of the negligence then? Because that is what these situations should be called. Who allowed this situation to arise?”
But he immediately stressed: “It is very good that clinics have been opened in this location; however, before proceeding with this idea, the infrastructure should have been addressed first and foremost, as it would have immediately improved the situation for pedestrians.”
