A student at the Primary School in Nowogrodziec had been targeted by a group of peers for nearly two years. Despite numerous measures taken by the school and the parents, the attacks intensified in April this year. The aggressors insulted the girl and suggested that she kill herself.
On April 20, the child's father reported the incident at the school to the police. His daughter's classmates followed her, saying “kill yourself” and “you slut”.
As early as April 21, a police officer from Nowogrodziec began carrying out procedures at the educational institution.
– The police officer conducted inquiries at the school, and the following day the collected material was forwarded to the Family Court in Bolesławiec for a decision to be made, reports police spokesperson Anna Kublik-Rościszewska. – In addition, a female police officer from Bolesławiec held an educational and informational meeting at the school with students about the responsibility of minors and proper attitudes and behaviour, the officer added.
Hate speech is not an “innocent game”
The police remind everyone that hate speech, mocking, humiliating or insulting others at school and online is not without consequences. Even minors may face consequences before the family court. That is why it is so important for parents and teachers to respond to every worrying sign.
