According to the latest information, the situation is very difficult, although the services report that the fire has been partially contained and intensive extinguishing of hot spots is underway. Huge forces and resources have been deployed to fight the blaze.

More than 450 firefighters from many voivodeships are currently taking part in the operation, supported by foresters, Territorial Defence Force soldiers and firefighting aircraft. At the peak, more than 80 firefighting units were conducting the operation.

According to the latest data, approximately 950 hectares of forest have burned. Strong winds and very dry forest undergrowth mean that the situation remains dynamic and dangerous.

There was also a tragedy during the operation – a Dromader firefighting aircraft crashed while taking part in the firefighting operation. The aircraft’s pilot died at the scene. The prosecutor’s office is investigating the circumstances of the crash.

A GFFF Wrocław module was sent to help fight the blaze (Ground Forest Fire Fighting – a specialist PSP module for firefighting operations in hard-to-reach terrain, including forests. The GFFF module consists of several dozen firefighters and specialist vehicles).

As OSP Nowogrodziec reports:

The module includes two firefighters from our OSP, who serve on a daily basis at KP PSP in Bolesławiec – Senior Asp. Rafał Fajkowski and Junior Fire Officer Tomasz Mius.

Good luck with the efficient operation and a safe return home!
