Over the past few days, firefighters have recorded an increased number of fires. Forests, grassland and buildings are burning… Many volunteer and state fire service units are involved in firefighting operations.
On May 2 alone, many fire service units fought a forest fire near Kozłów. Firefighters, including those from OSP Zebrzydowa, extinguished a fire in the attic of a single-family house in Nowogrodziec. The site of the former klinkiernia and the area around an abandoned building near the PKP station in Zebrzydowa were also on fire, as was a chimney in a building in Gromadka.
Meanwhile, on May 3, firefighters, including those from OSP Osiecznica, extinguished a forest fire near Przejęsław.
In recent weeks, extreme drought has prevailed in the forests, significantly increasing the risk of fires. The forest undergrowth is severely dried out, meaning that even the smallest spark can lead to the rapid spread of fire. The fire situation is very serious, and in some places even catastrophic. The fire service has to respond to forest, meadow and wasteland fires many times a day, demonstrating the scale of the threat.
There is hope that rainfall will arrive on Tuesday (May 5), which could improve the situation. Until then, however, we appeal for particular caution—avoid using open flames near green areas and respond immediately to any signs of fire.
