Many residents of Bolesławiec still remember the elephant figures from Wesoła Street. Their disappearance was widely discussed, and the subject of their return regularly came up in conversations between residents and city authorities.

During the April meeting of the Bolesławiec City Council, Mayor Piotr Roman referred to planned changes in the city’s public spaces, announcing:

As for ZEC, I will say right away that eventually the company president will go underground. In other words, soon we will no longer have to look at the pipes (on Wróblewski Street – ed. istotne.pl), which were one of the characteristic sights of our city.

Interestingly, that is not the end of it. The authorities are considering turning the area “reclaimed” in this way into a recreational space where animal figures could be installed. The most important place among them would be occupied by... elephants.

Moreover, there has also been an idea to expand the concept with additional animals, including a giraffe. This could make the space a new city attraction, drawing both residents and tourists.

For now, however, this is only a preliminary concept. The authorities stress that final decisions have not yet been made, and the project will be subject to further analysis and discussion.

If the plan is implemented, Bolesławiec could gain more than just a new recreational space. For many residents, the return of the elephants would mean not only an additional attraction but also the revival of fond memories.
