Students from the veterinary-profile class at the Zespół Szkół Technicznych i Przyrodniczych in Bolesławiec had the opportunity to take part in a special meeting with officers from the Komenda Powiatowa Policji.
The students’ greatest attention was drawn to the service dog Forma, who works with his handler every day while carrying out police duties.
During the class, a police officer spoke about the specifics of serving with a police dog. The students learned what the dog-training process looks like, which characteristics are taken into account when selecting the animals, and why properly matching a dog with its handler is so important.
Forma is a dog trained to search for the odours of narcotics. The students learned what the work of such a team involves, how operations to detect prohibited substances are conducted, and how important precision and mutual trust are in this service.
The police officer also presented other duties carried out by service-dog handlers. He spoke about searching areas, supporting police operations and the daily responsibilities that require full cooperation between a person and an animal.
For the students, the meeting was not only an interesting lesson in practical knowledge but also an inspiration for further professional development. For young people planning a future involving animals, it was a valuable opportunity to learn about the realities of service in the Police and see how important a role police dogs play.
As the officers emphasise, visits like this also have an educational and promotional dimension. They show young people that serving in the Police can combine a passion for working with animals with responsibility and helping others.
