Sonia Turzyniecka returned with gold and silver medals from the 17th Polish Championships (GPC Polska) in Zalesie.
– These were qualifiers for the World Championships, and an enormous experience, because the awards and level of competition exceeded my expectations – says Sonia Turzyniecka. – And although I still have not fully grown accustomed to what I encounter on my sporting journey, one thing is most important: I am the oldest woman in the world in the category for people with disabilities, while also breaking records. These are not boasts; they are real victories.
Humiliation will not stop my fighting spirit
The acclaimed competitor does not hide her bitterness over the recent lack of support from the city and county authorities. We wrote more about the matter in the article “Golden Sonia: I am at the mercy of MOPS, and I promoted two PiS and PSL parties”.
– Many people ask where I get so much strength and what diet I follow to achieve results in sport – says Sonia. – For a long time I was unable to answer everyone individually, so I will sum it up in one sentence: in the video I recorded and which is posted below, you will see exactly what drives me and what my preparations look like – says Sonia ironically, as she is forced to buy discounted products so that she does not go hungry.
– I have not yet managed to fill up on meals from MOPS, so I buy myself what you see in the video – says the sportswoman bitterly. – I am ashamed to say where I come from, and that for my achievements and promoting politicians and their parties, I am treated in such a humiliating way – says Sonia.
Without a shirt bearing Bolesławiec’s logo
– I also do not hide the fact that I suffer when I see how someone can treat me in a degrading way – says Sonia. – From the people who should have looked after a competitor like me, I expected support, but instead I encounter unpleasantness. Despite this, I keep moving forward like a storm, because sport means everything to me, and I cannot be stopped – Sonia adds.
Sonia Turzyniecka regrets that at the Polish Championships she could not represent Bolesławiec in a shirt bearing the logo of the city of ceramics.
– Life goes on, and I continue working toward results – Sonia adds.
Support that makes a difference
The competitor is supported by private individuals.
– Among all this, there were also good people – says Sonia. – People who provided real help. And for that I am grateful. My sponsors include Weronika Abramowicz. Przemysław Grecki and Tomasz Cierpisz. Thanks to such support, I can get through the next stages: pay entry fees, train and fight not only for a place on the podium, but also for the conditions needed to compete at all. I thank everyone who helped organize and finance the competition – Sonia says.
Sonia has one specific problem, which she speaks about openly.
– I am looking for a sponsor to support the development of sport and rehabilitation – the competitor appeals. – Now I am my own coach. I train, plan and fight, but I cannot afford professional coaching support on my own. This funding is currently my key goal – the competitor adds.
Sonia Turzyniecka dedicates her victory at the 2026 Polish Championships to her sponsors and to everyone who genuinely supports her in her sporting career.
– I would also like to thank the media patronage. It is important, because every bit of visibility and information about what I do helps build a chance of receiving further support – says a grateful Sonia.
