The incident occurred on Friday afternoon. The authorities were notified thanks to the actions of two boys aged 13 and 14. The teenagers heard cries for help coming from the vacant building and noticed a bloodied man. One of them immediately informed his mother, who called the emergency number 112.
Police officers were the first to arrive at the scene and immediately began providing first aid. The officers stopped the bleeding and monitored the injured man’s vital functions until the arrival of the emergency medical team. The 26-year-old was taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery. Doctors assessed his condition as life-threatening.
Police quickly detained the suspect—a 59-year-old man. The weapon used in the crime was secured from the detainee. Investigators determined that an argument had broken out between the men. The older man entered the vacant building, woke the sleeping 26-year-old and demanded that he leave his sleeping place, namely the mattress. Moments later, he stabbed him in the stomach.
The detainee is well known to the officers. According to police, he had repeatedly appeared in police records and had already been convicted of crimes against life and health. He was charged with causing grievous bodily harm, for which he faces up to 20 years in prison. However, because he acted under conditions of multiple recidivism, he could face even life imprisonment.
By court order, the man was placed in pre-trial detention for three months.
“The attitude of the young boys deserves particular recognition. Thanks to them, police officers quickly received information about the dangerous incident and were able to respond effectively. The officers reached the injured man in time, saving his life,” says asp. szt. Monika Kaleta of the Wrocław KWP. “The attitude of these young people shows how important empathy and a quick response are in situations involving a threat to life and health. It is an example worth following and deserves to be highlighted and commended.
