On 29 March 2026, at approximately 00:15, officers from the Patrol and Intervention Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica, returning home after their shift, noticed a Volkswagen Golf in the village of Koiszków. – The driver was trying to get out of a roadside ditch and continue driving – reports Commissioner Jagoda Ekiert of the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters.
The officers, suspecting that the driver might need help, immediately intervened, even though they were already off duty.
After approaching the vehicle and identifying themselves, the officers quickly became suspicious of the driver’s condition. Commissioner J. Ekiert:
A strong smell of alcohol was noticeable from the man, his speech was slurred, and his behavior clearly indicated that he might be under the influence.
The police prevented the man from driving any further by taking his vehicle keys. They also checked whether he needed medical assistance.
The duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica was immediately informed of the entire situation and dispatched a Road Traffic Department patrol to the scene.
The officers who arrived at the scene conducted a sobriety test on the driver. The result was more than 2 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled air.

This situation shows how important a swift response and responsibility are, even outside working hours. Thanks to the officers’ decisive action, a potential tragedy on the road was prevented.
