Recently, we reported that fifteen councillors of the Bolesławiec County Council voted in favour of merging St. Luke’s Hospital with the facility in Zgorzelec.
As it turns out, the Bolesławiec hospital is also to merge with the Independent Public Healthcare Institution – Healthcare Centre in Kunice. County councillors will make a decision on the matter at the March meeting of the aforementioned body.
The document’s justification states:
The merger will take place on the basis of an agreement, as a result of which all assets of the Independent Public Healthcare Institution Healthcare Centre in Kunice will be transferred to the ZOZ in Bolesławiec, while retaining the name Healthcare Services Complex in Bolesławiec for the merged entities, without conducting liquidation proceedings for the merging entities.
What is the purpose of the merger?
The draft resolution reads:
The purpose of merging the institutions is to continue providing the existing range of medical services, expand access to healthcare benefits, improve the conditions in which they are provided, and achieve higher quality.

Bolesławiec County is the founding body for the independent public healthcare institution known as the “Healthcare Services Complex in Bolesławiec”, and under the provisions of the Act on Medical Activity, founding bodies of independent public healthcare institutions may merge these institutions by agreement—in the case of institutions having different founding bodies.
