No braking on one axle and only trace braking effectiveness on the other – this was the technical condition of the trailer discovered by inspectors during an inspection on the A4 motorway. Thanks to the mobile diagnostic line, it turned out that the vehicle combination belonging to a domestic carrier was practically unable to stop.
Road Transport Inspection officers are increasingly using a mobile diagnostic line (MLD), which makes it possible to conduct a full technical inspection of a vehicle directly on the road. The Road Transport Inspection explains:
The device operates identically to the equipment used at vehicle inspection stations and allows for an accurate assessment of the condition of key systems responsible for safety.
On 11 March, during an inspection using the MLD, officers stopped a vehicle combination belonging to a domestic carrier. Road Transport Inspection: – The vehicle was transporting window inserts. During the detailed inspection, it quickly became clear that the technical condition of the trailer was extremely dangerous.
It adds:
The measurement results were alarming. The first trailer axle had no braking force at all – for either the service brake or the parking brake. The second axle showed only trace braking effectiveness, which in practice meant that the vehicle barely braked at all.
But that was not all. Inspectors also found serious tire wear – one of the tires on the first axle was fit only for immediate replacement.
The authority:
Such serious defects pose a direct threat to the safety of all road users.
Inspectors immediately seized the trailer’s registration certificate and prohibited it from continuing its journey. Administrative proceedings were also initiated against the carrier. The Voivodeship Road Transport Inspection in Wrocław announces further operations using the mobile diagnostic line: – Inspections of this kind make it possible to quickly remove from the roads vehicles whose technical condition could lead to a tragedy.
