We have written about the playground on Łukasiewicza Street many times in our newspaper. In both 2007 and 2009, we received reports about the poor condition of the equipment at the site. At that time, the defects were quickly repaired. However, the issue has returned for the third time. In an email to the editorial office, our Reader wrote: “The playground, which after the portal’s intervention in 2009 city officials decided to restore to a usable condition, is once again endangering children’s lives. But why does no one take care of the condition of this playground? After all, it is city property. The play equipment is in a tragic state. A sign should be put up here: DANGER TO LIFE, COLLAPSE HAZARD.”

She added: “Two structures have been completely demolished, while the rest stand with broken elements. If the city cannot afford to build or renovate the existing playground, then it should demolish whatever poses a danger to our children. The area could simply be covered with sand, a small slide and a swing could be installed, and the rest could be turned into a sports field with green grass. It is strange that no one cares about the needs of the youngest residents. Could it be that our officials do not have children?”

The playground on Łukasiewicza Street is one of the largest facilities of this kind in our city. Many parents bring their children there. Young children are difficult to supervise, and an accident can happen easily. However, as Agnieszka Gergont, a City Hall spokesperson, assured us, the equipment will be repaired by July 8 this year. What is more, the playground on Łukasiewicza Street was entered in the “100 Playgrounds for 100 Years of NIVEA” competition. The Bolesławiec playground can be voted for until October 31, 2011.
