Mayor Piotr Roman, while presenting a report on the most important actions taken between sessions at Wednesday’s meeting of the Bolesławiec City Council, mentioned the problem of daubings on the viaduct:
I repeatedly wrote to PKP PLK. This company manages the railway viaduct in Bolesławiec.
The reason for the letters? Pseudograffiti. The mayor appealed for the removal of these dubious-quality works.
Eventually, the municipal authorities offered to deal with it themselves—but in cooperation with the company mentioned above.
In April last year, the mayor invited company representatives to Bolesławiec. As it turned out, the manager stated that the structure had been cleaned in 2023. And that “repeating these activities without simultaneously implementing effective preventive measures on the part of the City is economically unjustified.” The letters from the company’s Wrocław headquarters were written in a similar tone.
– I don’t really understand what I am supposed to do. Should we station a city guard officer there? – the mayor commented during the session. – We are planning monitoring, but as of today, removing such things is the responsibility of every owner.
The company also wrote that, “in all likelihood,” these acts of vandalism had been committed by… Bolesławiec residents. – This is corporate jargon. All we want is for these inscriptions to be removed at least once a year – the mayor concluded.
He immediately added: – Then what is PLK for? Let’s take over this viaduct.
He also announced that he would send a letter—this time to the company’s president in Warsaw. The document states, among other things, that the manager “with admirable consistency ignores its statutory obligations regarding the protection of historic monuments.”
– I cannot allow the city to be treated this way – P. Roman stressed. – We have our pride and honour. No one was caught red-handed, and there is no evidence that they were Bolesławiec residents. It is as if someone had spat in our face.
