Kamil D. was today sentenced to 5 years in prison. The prosecutor’s office had sought 9 years. Nevertheless, Sebastian Woźniak, head of the Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office, considers the court’s ruling satisfactory.
Let us recall. Last year, we reported that on April 23, 2025, the Bolesławiec District Court sentenced 37-year-old Kamil D., a resident of Bolesławiec County, to 7 years in prison and a permanent ban on driving all motor vehicles for causing a fatal road accident and fleeing the scene.
The investigation into the case was conducted by the Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office.
– The incident occurred on August 22, 2020, after 10 p.m., in Jurków, where, near a road intersection, the perpetrator, due to excessive speed that was not adapted to the conditions on the road and its layout, lost control of the vehicle he was driving, crossed to the left edge of the road and entered the lane intended for vehicles traveling in the opposite direction, causing a head-on collision with the injured cyclist, who was traveling properly on that road – Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, press spokesperson for the Jelenia Góra Regional Prosecutor’s Office, explained at the time.
As a result of being struck, the cyclist suffered multiple-organ injuries to the internal organs of the head, chest and abdominal cavity, which resulted in his death at the scene. The perpetrator fled the scene of the accident.
Spokesperson:
During the investigation, it was established that the accused tried to persuade his friend to help him avoid criminal liability by taking responsibility for the incident in exchange for PLN 50,000.
The sentence imposed at that time was, in the prosecutor’s office’s view, too lenient.
