Gynecologist and obstetrician Gizela Jagielska is the only doctor in Poland who openly helps women obtain legal abortions and publicly admits it. Last year, the doctor terminated a pregnancy at 37 weeks in accordance with the law in force in Poland. According to the prosecutor’s office, the pregnancy posed a serious threat to the mother’s life and health. The decision to terminate the pregnancy was made by the mother, among other things, after consulting a geneticist who informed her about the condition of the fetus:

The skull bones are abnormally developed, the glands are enlarged, and the baby is already experiencing pain in the womb. The chest is poorly developed, the heart is too large" (...) the bones (...) are like a "honeycomb"—full of holes and lacking collagen, which means they will break with the slightest movement. (...) children with this form of the disease, type 2 osteogenesis imperfecta, most often die shortly after birth or live only a few days, experiencing enormous suffering.

Gizela Jagielska is exposed to attacks by fanatics opposed to saving the lives of mothers in high-risk pregnancies. People cynically supported by far-right politicians such as MEP Braun and Kaja Godek, an anti-abortion activist.

“Kaja Godek stirred up the entire affair against Dr. Gizela,” Piotr Socha tells us. “Most of the people protesting outside the hospital were not residents of Lubań. I confirm that Ms. Gizela was in our town. I received various messages, mainly from right-wing circles, and interestingly, most of them supported the doctor,” adds Piotr Socha, who is active in the Młodzi dla Lubania organization.
