– The Jelenia Góra District Prosecutor’s Office has filed an indictment with the District Court in Kamienna Góra against a 34-year-old man residing in Germany. He is charged with actively attacking intervening police officers using a dangerous weapon—in the form of a car—during and in connection with their official duties related to arresting the perpetrator, as well as with the crime of property damage committed under recidivist conditions, repeatedly violating a court ban on driving any motor vehicles, driving a car under the influence of psychotropic substances, and using registration plates not assigned to that vehicle – says Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska of the Jelenia Góra District Prosecutor’s Office.
Investigators established that on 5 June 2025, officers of the Jawor County Police Headquarters received information that a Lexus was parked in the lot outside a Biedronka store in Bolków and was suspected of having been unlawfully appropriated by the person who rented it.
The police officers who arrived at the scene approached the car, in which the driver and a female passenger were sitting. (The engine was running.) When he noticed the officers, the perpetrator locked the doors from the inside and, ignoring their orders to open them, began manoeuvring the vehicle, driving forwards and backwards in such a way that the intervening officers had to jump aside and step out of its path to avoid being hit or run over.
The result? Prosecutor:
While performing this manoeuvre, he also struck the Biedronka store wall with the front of the vehicle and hit the side of a marked VW Transporter police van, then the side of another police car and a Hyundai Tucson parked nearby, damaging them. At one point, the driver managed to clear a passage and leave the scene. However, shortly afterwards he lost control of the vehicle and drove into a river. He then tried to escape on foot, but was detained.
It was also established that from 1 to 5 June 2025, in various locations, the defendant drove a Lexus passenger car on public roads five times, despite two final court bans prohibiting him from driving any motor vehicles. On 5 June 2025, he drove the vehicle while under the influence of psychotropic substances in the form of methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Grzegorz B. partially admitted to the crimes he was charged with, namely driving without a licence and under the influence of psychotropic substances, as well as property damage. He gave a brief statement.
The defendant, who has already been convicted by the courts numerous times, including for property crimes, faces up to 15 years in prison.
He is awaiting trial in pre-trial detention.
