District police officers from Bogatynia attempted to stop the driver of a Škoda for a traffic check while on patrol. – However, he ignored the light and sound signals ordering him to stop the vehicle, accelerated and began to flee – reports Senior Warrant Officer Monika Kaleta from the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – After a brief chase, the driver turned onto a field and began fleeing on foot. He was detained after several hundred metres.
It turned out that the fugitive was a 41-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County. A drug test showed that he was under the influence of methamphetamine.
During further proceedings, police officers determined that the Škoda driven by the 41-year-old had registration plates assigned to another vehicle, and that the car itself had been stolen in the Czech Republic. The spokesperson said: – During a preventive search, officers found a crystalline substance prohibited by law on the driver.
The result? The man was detained and taken to the Police Station in Bogatynia. Senior Aspirant M. Kaleta:
As a result of searching his apartment and outbuildings, police officers found two firearms, ammunition and more drugs. In total, the officers seized more than 260 grams of methamphetamine, 141 grams of marijuana and powdered ecstasy tablets.
The 41-year-old will now face the court for failing to stop for a traffic check; driving a car under the influence of drugs with registration plates assigned to another vehicle; vehicle fencing; possessing a significant quantity of narcotic and psychotropic substances; and possessing firearms and ammunition without the required permit. He faces up to 15 years in prison.
At the prosecutor’s request, the court applied the most severe custodial preventive measure to the suspect: three months of pre-trial detention.
