Forum Cinema has loyal viewers and an excellent program, but something is going wrong.
– Cinema is a special way for us to connect with residents – declared Kornel Filipowicz at a City Council session at the end of 2024. – We try to make the cinema surprising. The latest initiative is “a screening in the dark.” The viewer comes to the cinema and does not know what they will watch. I hope they do not leave disappointed – added Director Filipowicz.
It is possible that this idea was disappointing after all. Attendance fell, although only slightly. Could the installation of a new screen in the large auditorium of Forum Cinema, planned for this year at a cost of more than PLN 195,000, improve the declining attendance? The results will have to wait. Or perhaps it is time to consider more modern management of the entire institution, whose budget in 2025 amounted to PLN 11 million.
– We have to generate nearly PLN 7 million in order to operate and carry out our activities – Kornel Filipowicz informed the councillors.Kornel Filipowicz.
BOK – MCC earns money, among other things, from tickets for cinema screenings. What has attendance looked like over the past few years? The number of viewers in 2022 was 82,000, in 2023 it was 95,000, and in 2024 more than 100,000 were recorded. Among 200 cities in the category of two-screen cinemas with the largest audiences, Forum Cinema ranked first in 2022, only to drop to second place in 2023 (GUS data).
