Screenings of a film about the Second World War in English enabled the students to explore historical topics in an engaging and unconventional way. Using a spherical 360-degree projection system covering the panoramic area, an incredible image appeared inside the dome.
The virtually authenticated reality presented a series of historical events, beginning with the Treaty of Versailles, the interwar period and the Great Depression of 1929–1933, as well as the creation of the Third Reich and the activities of Adolf Hitler. The Second World War section focuses on Hitler’s conquest of Europe, the Battle of the Atlantic and the Battle of Britain, the Normandy landings, and the surrender of the Third Reich.
The issue of the Holocaust was not forgotten either. The second part of the film showed the war in the Pacific, the involvement of the United States, the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and Japan’s surrender. The film lasted 44 minutes, although it is known that it is difficult to present such a complex conflict in such a short time. Nevertheless, the screening was very interesting and engaging.
The students were able to recall important events in a way different from the traditional approach and, at the same time, improve their language skills. The activity was organized by Ms. Magdalena Stadnik and Ms. Elżbieta Dacewicz, teachers at the Construction School Complex.
