On Tuesday evening (December 9), the sky over Bolesławiec shimmered with intense shades of pink, purple and red, creating an exceptionally atmospheric scene. This incredible sight was captured by one of our cameras.
Meteorologists explain that this phenomenon results from the Sun’s low position below the horizon and the presence of clouds that perfectly reflect the warm colors of the spectrum. It is a natural optical effect, but it is rarely so intense.
Such intense colors appear in the sky when the Sun’s rays, with the Sun already below the horizon, pass through a thicker layer of the atmosphere. The cooler colors of the spectrum are then scattered, while shades of red reach our eyes above all. Clouds positioned appropriately further enhance the effect.
Although this colorful spectacle was most visible for a dozen or so minutes, it managed to attract the attention of many residents, who eagerly photographed the exceptionally colorful sky.
The view may have brought to mind the lyrics of a song known from Kaśka Sochacka’s work, in which a pink sky becomes a metaphor for turning points and emotional moments:
