We received a short video and photographs of a colorful sky and clouds with very interesting shapes at the editorial office. What do these clouds remind you of? They remind us of waves and soaring birds.

Darek from Jędrzychowice spotted these beautiful views near Iłowa and decided to share them.

Wavy clouds over the region

Today, the sky featured distinctive parallel bands of clouds resembling outstretched bird wings. These are known as Altostratus undulatus—high layered clouds with a wavy structure. They form when different layers of air move at different speeds, “drawing” regular waves across the sky.

Such formations often appear before the arrival of an weather front, the boundary between air masses with different properties (e.g., warm and cool). The passage of a front can bring a change in the weather—increased cloud cover, stronger winds, cooler temperatures, and, in some places, rainfall.
