The incident occurred on a section of the A4 motorway in the direction of Zgorzelec. – The driver of an Iveco vehicle with a trailer first hit an energy-absorbing barrier, then stopped in an emergency bay – reports Senior Assistant Constable Aleksandra Pieprzycka from the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. She immediately adds: – A few moments later, while rejoining the traffic, he failed to yield the right of way and caught the left mirror on the rear of a trailer belonging to a truck travelling in the right lane.
Officers who stopped the perpetrator quickly established the reason for his dangerous manoeuvres – he had nearly 3‰ of alcohol in his system. The police spokesperson:
According to the police findings, he travelled the entire route with his hazard lights on, drove into the protective barriers and then caused another collision.
The driver, a 52-year-old Romanian citizen, was immediately arrested and placed in a police cell. The policewoman:
He will be brought before the court today under an expedited procedure, where he will answer for driving while intoxicated and causing a threat to safety in road traffic.
