During night duty in Zgorzelec, traffic police attempted to stop the driver of an Opel vehicle for a roadside inspection. – However, he ignored the light and sound signals ordering him to stop, accelerated and began to flee – reports Superintendent Agnieszka Goguł, press officer for the District Police Commander in Zgorzelec. – At one point, on a bend in the road, he lost control of the vehicle, drove onto nearby agricultural land, then crashed through a fence and went down an embankment, coming to a stop on parts of the fence.

As a result of the incident, the driver was taken to hospital. After checks in available databases, it turned out that the 42-year-old driver was subject to two active driving bans and was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

He now faces up to 5 years in prison for the offences committed.

We remind you that failing to stop for a roadside inspection is a crime, as is driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.

We appeal to drivers to exercise common sense and responsibility. Any such recklessness may end in tragedy, both for the driver and for random people on the road.
