Update 12:07

After the publication of the material below, another Reader wrote to us:

The same problem occurs at the crosswalk by the school on Ceramiczna Street... Bus drivers in particular do not care that there is a speed bump and a school there...

And those new crosswalks in plain view by the bridge. Everyone drives by habit, forgetting that there is now a crossing there, and quite often you really have to wait a long time before someone graciously stops and lets pedestrians cross.

A Reader wrote to us:

It concerns safety at the intersection of Ceramiczna, Fieldorfa and Widok streets in Bolesławiec. Yesterday (October 9 – editor’s note: istotne.pl), a tragedy was narrowly avoided: a child returning from school, already on the crosswalk (on the Fieldorfa side), was almost hit by a car traveling at high speed.

She added: – Everything looked very dangerous; fortunately, this time there was no tragedy. Over the years, there have been many accidents at this intersection, including even a fatal one.”

She also asked: “Can’t we influence the authorities to improve safety at this intersection? I don’t know: traffic lights, speed bumps… One would like to write: »Does something really have to happen before the authorities start thinking? (...) there is still no response…”.

(The Reader clarified that the incident took place at the crosswalk by Generała Nila Street in Bolesławiec).

We asked the Wrocław branch of GDDKiA about the matter. We will publish the response as soon as we receive it.
