Thanks to the vigilance of other road users and the swift response of traffic police officers, two drunk drivers travelling on the A4 motorway were taken off the road overnight from Saturday to Sunday.

The first arrest took place a few minutes after midnight. – Police received a report about a driver who was travelling on the motorway in a manner indicating that he might be under the influence of alcohol – explains Police Commissioner Jagoda Ekiert, press officer for the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica. – The officers quickly located and stopped the 46-year-old driver of a Citroën. A breathalyser test showed 3.2 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled air.

Shortly afterwards, the police stopped another vehicle – this time an Audi driven by a 39-year-old Ukrainian citizen. The foreign national was also drunk, with 2.5 per mille of alcohol.

Thanks to the immediate response of witnesses and the effective actions of the officers, two intoxicated drivers who posed a serious threat to themselves and other road users were taken off the road.

Driving while intoxicated is punishable by up to 3 years in prison, a hefty fine and a driving ban.
