Jelenia Góra police officers detained a 30-year-old resident of Lwówek County who is suspected of vehicle theft, assaulting a police officer, driving under the influence of intoxicants, failing to stop for a road check, and exposing other people to the immediate danger of loss of life or health.
The incident took place on 7 October 2025 in the Czech Republic and in Karkonosze County. The officers:
(…) at around 4:10 p.m., the duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra was notified by the Czech side about an ongoing cross-border pursuit. Czech police officers were pursuing the driver of a Fiat Ducato, which, as established, had been stolen in the Czech Republic. The man failed to stop for a road check and fled towards Poland, in the direction of Jakuszyce.
Near Piechowice, Jelenia Góra police officers set up a roadblock. Seeing the officers, the driver stopped the vehicle, then tried to turn around and subsequently drove straight at one of the officers.
In response to the direct threat to the officer’s life and health, another police officer fired warning shots in an attempt to immobilize the vehicle. Police: – Despite this, the driver continued to flee, violating numerous traffic regulations and creating a serious danger for other road users.
Several kilometers farther on, in Wojcieszyce, the man left the main road and drove onto a meadow, abandoned the car and attempted to escape on foot. After a brief pursuit, he was detained by officers from Police Station II in Jelenia Góra.
The detainee was a 30-year-old resident of Lwówek County. The man’s behavior indicated that he might be under the influence of intoxicants—the preliminary tester examination confirmed these suspicions.
The man was taken to police custody, where he is awaiting further procedural steps. Today, he will hear charges including vehicle theft, assaulting a police officer, driving under the influence of intoxicants, failing to stop for a road check, and endangering the lives and health of other people. For the crimes committed, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
