– Last Saturday evening, the duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski received a report of a road incident in Pasiecznik in which a passenger car had crashed into a tree. According to the caller, the vehicle’s driver might have been under the influence of alcohol – reports junior aspirant Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer for the Lwówek KPP.
Officers from the Lwówek command and police officers from the Police Station in Gryfów Śląski were immediately dispatched to the scene. The spokesperson said: – Before they arrived, the driver had left the scene. The officers began a search operation, which ended in a brief chase and the perpetrator’s arrest.
The driver turned out to be a 35-year-old resident of Lwówek County. He was completely drunk; a test showed that he had more than 2.5‰ of alcohol in his system. That was not all! It was also established that the man was subject to a court ban on driving motor vehicles, and that the car he was driving had registration plates belonging to another vehicle.
The 35-year-old now faces up to five years in prison. Police remind the public that anyone who decides to get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol poses a fatal threat to themselves and other road users.
