Last Friday, Bolesławiec police officers received a report of a fraud committed against a city resident. The police station: – During the night, a man pretending to be a police officer called the senior woman. He informed her that her daughter had caused an accident in which a child had died, and that the perpetrator of the road accident had been taken to hospital.

The criminal then asked what the daughter’s name was. The officers:

After the victim provided the information, she heard a woman’s voice on the phone, slightly distorted because of a broken nose. The rest of the conversation was conducted by the man, who informed her that money was needed as property security to help her daughter. A prosecutor from Legnica was supposedly going to come for the cash.

After 4:00 a.m., a man appeared and collected the money. Several hours later, the senior woman realized that she had been deceived.

Moreover, the Bolesławiec police unit also received reports of unsuccessful fraud attempts; fortunately, the other people did not allow themselves to be drawn into the conversation.

Police remind us:

  • Let’s not trust people who claim by telephone to be relatives or their friends. Real prosecutors, police officers and other officials never inform people by telephone about ongoing operations and never ask them to hand over money. This is how scammers operate!
  • Let’s never give money to people we do not know. If someone calls about such a matter and we have doubts, we must contact the police by calling the emergency number 112!
  • Let’s always verify a “request for help” by contacting our loved ones directly!
  • We appeal to family members! Let’s inform older people about the dangers they may face!
