Official statement from the Provincial Police Headquarters:

The incident occurred on Sunday (August 31 this year) in the afternoon in Lubań. The duty officer at the district police headquarters was notified that a man with a gunshot wound had been found in one of the car parks serving shops in the town.

When the police arrived at the scene, they indeed found an injured man lying there. Together with bystanders, they checked his condition and applied a pressure dressing. An ambulance was also called.

The victim’s condition began to deteriorate and he was losing consciousness. Medical rescuers soon arrived at the scene and took over further care of the man. The police secured the area, established the circumstances and searched for the perpetrator.

It turned out that a verbal altercation had occurred between two men. The 52-year-old allegedly pulled out an object resembling a weapon and threatened the other man. After this, the outraged 58-year-old went to his home, where he took an air gun, then returned to the same place and fired in the victim’s direction. The 52-year-old victim, who sustained life-threatening injuries to his neck, was taken to hospital.

The perpetrator was arrested very quickly and taken into police custody. He was intoxicated at the time of his arrest.

At the request of the police and the Prosecutor’s Office, after the charges were presented, the District Court in Lubań ordered the man to be held in pre-trial detention for three months. The 58-year-old faces up to life imprisonment for attempted murder.


The Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation against a 58-year-old resident of Lubań, who is suspected of attempted murder. – The investigation has established that on August 31, 2025, in Lubań, in the evening, while the victim was walking along the street with his mother, a dog belonging to the suspect’s partner attacked the woman – explains Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, press spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra. – An argument broke out between the victim and the perpetrator. During it, the victim pulled out a pellet pistol and began waving it in the direction of the attacking dog, after which he and his mother left the scene.

The perpetrator went to his home, where he took an air gun. Then, after seeing the victim and his mother near the Dino store, he walked towards them. The prosecutor said: – There, he fired a shot at the 52-year-old victim, wounding him in the lower part of the neck and causing life-threatening injuries.

After being brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lubań, the suspect was charged with attempted murder. He faces up to life imprisonment.

Mieczysław Ł. admitted to firing an air gun in the victim’s direction. He gave an explanation. However, he firmly denied intending to take the victim’s life.

At the investigators’ request, the court ordered Ł. to be held in pre-trial detention for three months.
