The perpetrator stood in the checkout line behind a woman who had her handbag in the shopping basket. Taking advantage of the victim's inattention, the man looked inside the handbag and pulled out the wallet. He then put down his shopping and hurried out of the store.
The 36-year-old caused losses worth more than 4,000 zlotys; in addition to cash, the wallet contained gold jewelry.
The suspect was detained. He admitted to the alleged offense. Theft is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
