Monika Kaleta from the Press Section of the Lower Silesian Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
She adds: – Preliminary findings made at the scene indicate that the 45-year-old resident of Legnica was swimming in the reservoir and, while climbing out of the water up a steep rocky bank, slipped. As a result, he fell from a height, struck his head on a rock ledge, then fell into the water and did not resurface.
A specialist water rescue team was deployed, including divers from the State Fire Service in Legnica. Despite resuscitation efforts, the man's life could not be saved.
Investigators, under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office in Jawor, are carrying out activities aimed at establishing the precise circumstances of this tragic incident.
Police appeal:
Once again, we remind everyone to use common sense, exercise caution and be careful when relaxing near water. Use only supervised swimming areas and remember always to enter the water sober.
Swimming in unfamiliar, closed-off bathing areas may result in an accident. We do not know the condition of the bottom, the layout of the terrain or what is directly beneath the surface. In addition, such bodies of water usually have fewer people around—or no one who could even call for help. Emergency services also find it more difficult to reach such places. Let us enjoy the summer more wisely.
