Bolesławiec is focusing on care. Szpital Świętego Łukasza begins implementation of a groundbreaking project that will provide comprehensive care for elderly and dependent people. Thanks to an EU grant of nearly PLN 7 million, a care services centre will be established to support 110 people.

As Kamil Barczyk, the hospital director, noted, the project will not only provide assistance to residents of Bolesławiec County, but will also create a new model for the deinstitutionalisation of social care. “The hospital will take over care functions and coordinate assistance from the outpatient to the hospital level. This will give families some respite, while dependent people will receive professional care,” he stressed Kamil Barczyk.

Bartosz Kotecki, director of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Labour Office, observed that this is one of the first Integrated Territorial Investment projects implemented in the region. “This centre brings many services together under one roof: day care, assistance services and an equipment lending service. This is money well invested,” he said Bartosz Kotecki.

The project will be implemented by Szpital Świętego Łukasza, which, according to county governor Tomasz Gabrysiak, is a natural choice. “The hospital has experience, qualified staff and continually expanding infrastructure. We are ready to provide care for 110 beneficiaries,” the county governor said Tomasz Gabrysiak.

The statements also included reflections on the scale of demand. “This assistance ideally complements the work of MOPS and GOPS, while making use of the hospital’s strengths: doctors, rehabilitation specialists and other experts,” Gabrysiak noted.

According to internal medicine department head Artur Nahorecki, the project will support patients after hospitalisation. “We treat acute conditions, but what happens next? Further care is lacking. This project will fill that gap. We expect that even 10% of patients each month will use this assistance,” the doctor explained.

Bolesławiec mayor Piotr Roman also spoke, recalling that efforts to enable the implementation of Integrated Territorial Investments in this part of Lower Silesia had continued for years. “Today we can see the results of these efforts. This is real assistance for residents—not only of Bolesławiec, but of the entire microregion,” he concluded Piotr Roman.

Thanks to the joint efforts of the local authorities and the hospital, a comprehensive care system is being created that has a real chance of becoming a model for other local governments.
