A reader called us after noticing that a woman aged 60 or over was sitting at one of the bus stops in Bolesławiec with several shopping bags. She first saw her yesterday evening. The second time was this morning, in the very same place. According to the caller, it is possible that the woman spent the night at that bus stop.
The senior woman, the caller continued, did not appear to be homeless or under the influence of alcohol. The concerned reader approached her this morning, pretending to check the timetable. The woman sitting at the bus stop was responsive and even replied to her greeting. However, the caller was afraid to engage in a longer interaction.
The reader added that the woman could be suffering from dementia and simply not know where she was. She said that someone in her family was in the early stages of this terrible disease.
We suggested that the reader report the matter to the services—in this case, the municipal police. She replied that she did not want to do so. Why? She was afraid that she would be ignored.
Despite several attempts, we were unable to contact the Bolesławiec municipal police.
What should you do in such a situation?
✅ Recommended actions:
-
Report it to the municipal police – this is the most appropriate service in such a situation because:
-
They are authorized to check on a person in a public place.
-
They can call for medical assistance if necessary.
-
They cooperate with MOPS or the Police if there is a suspicion that someone is missing.
-
-
Alternatively—the Police (112 or the local police station):
-
If there is a suspicion that the person is missing or in danger, it is worth reporting this directly to the Police.
-
-
Important: Reports of this kind are not an abuse of the system, even if it turns out that everything is fine. The services are obliged to check such reports.
