Legnica police officers intervened in the case of a man who, according to the report, was driving while intoxicated and threatening passers-by with an object resembling a firearm. – The report reached the duty officer at around 10:00 p.m. Information about a suspicious BMW driving through the streets of Legnica was passed on to patrols on duty in the area – says asp. Anna Tersa of KMP in Legnica. – One of the police officers, who was off duty, was the first to notice the indicated vehicle – with its engine running but its lights switched off – and a man sleeping behind the wheel. The officer immediately secured the scene and notified the duty officer.

Police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. Spokesperson: – There was a man in the vehicle whose condition indicated severe alcohol intoxication. Because it was suspected that he might possess a dangerous object, the police immediately intervened and subdued the driver, using direct coercive measures.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found an object resembling a firearm lying within the driver's reach. The object was secured for further procedural activities. After an initial examination, it turned out to be a gas pistol.

A breathalyzer test of the 27-year-old Ukrainian citizen showed an alcohol concentration in his exhaled air exceeding 2.5 per mille. The man was arrested and placed in police custody. The vehicle he was driving did not have a valid technical inspection; it too was secured.

The man will now face the court. Driving while intoxicated is punishable by up to 3 years in prison.
