Bolesławiec police:

Officers from the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec have concluded with an indictment an investigation against residents of Lubusz Voivodeship, conducted under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec. The case concerned the suspects’ report of a car theft during their tourist visit to Bolesławiec County.

In April 2024, the couple arrived at a facility where they had booked accommodation. After staying for two days, they reported the theft of a vehicle worth more than PLN 270,000. The notification was filed at the end of April, while the vehicle’s lease buyout was due in June.

Video surveillance proved to be key evidence in the case. When getting out of the car, the man did not lock it or activate the alarm. Although no one approached the vehicle, it drove away several dozen minutes after being parked. A detailed analysis of the recordings, conducted by Bolesławiec police officers, made it possible to verify the course of events.

In December 2024, the Lubusz Voivodeship residents were detained by police officers and brought to the Bolesławiec prosecutor’s office, where they were charged with reporting a crime that had not occurred and misappropriating a vehicle worth more than PLN 270,000.

The 36-year-old woman and 37-year-old man face a sentence of between 1 and 10 years in prison.

– The District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec has submitted to the Regional Court in Jelenia Góra an indictment against 36-year-old Justyna Ł. and her cohabiting partner, 37-year-old Patryk F. They are charged with notifying law enforcement authorities of a crime that was not committed and misappropriating a car worth PLN 270,900 – says Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, press spokesperson for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra.

The investigation established that on April 26, 2024, the defendants, together with another person whose identity has not yet been established, arrived in a leased Audi Q8 at Zamek Kliczków Hotel for leisure purposes. After unloading the luggage, Patryk F. left the vehicle in the hotel car park. The spokesperson said: – When he left the car at 6:32 p.m., he did not lock it or arm the alarm, and then went to the hotel.

According to the surveillance footage, approximately 30 minutes later the vehicle’s hazard lights came on; the driver’s-side doors were opened, slightly ajar and quickly closed. The narrow opening made it impossible for anyone to enter or exit the car.

After the doors were closed, the vehicle was started by an unidentified person, who remained inside and drove away in an unknown direction.

On April 28, 2024, the defendants notified the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec by telephone of the theft by burglary of an Audi Q8, although they knew that no such crime had been committed. Both now face up to 10 years in prison.

The perpetrators did not admit to committing the offenses of which they were accused. They gave explanations. Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska:

The District Prosecutor in Bolesławiec applied non-custodial preventive measures against them in the form of a travel ban. In addition, in the case of defendant Justyna Ł., a property security measure was applied toward repairing the damage caused by the crime, consisting of PLN 7,600 and a compulsory mortgage of PLN 300,000.

Justyna Ł. had no prior convictions. Patryk F., however, had already been convicted by a court.
