Police:
Electric scooters are vehicles whose use is governed by road traffic regulations. Riding an electric scooter after consuming alcohol is treated under the law similarly to riding a bicycle. A person riding under the influence of alcohol may be punished for a misdemeanour under Article 87 § 1a of the Code of Petty Offences, for which the penalty is arrest or a fine of no less than PLN 2,500.
And adds:
We appeal to all electric scooter users to exercise caution and follow safety rules:
- No riding under the influence of alcohol – intoxication significantly reduces reflexes and the ability to assess situations on the road, which can lead to accidents.
- Ride alone – electric scooters are not designed to carry passengers.
- Use pavements in accordance with the regulations – an electric scooter may be ridden on the pavement only in specific situations and with particular care towards pedestrians.
- Take care of the technical condition of your scooter – regular checks of the brakes and lighting are the basis of safe riding.
Let us remember that responsibility for our actions is key to avoiding unnecessary tragedies.
