A disturbing incident occurred on Monday, May 19, at 3:00 p.m. on Sudecka Street in Legnica. – It was only by a miracle that tragedy was avoided – says Junior Constable Anna Tersa of the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters.
She adds:
According to the officers’ findings, a 43-year-old resident of Legnica County who was driving a Volkswagen lost control of the vehicle after failing to adjust her speed to the prevailing road conditions and crashed into a streetlamp. Her 6-year-old son was also in the car. Fortunately, neither the child nor the woman was injured.
A breathalyser test showed that the woman had almost 3 promille of alcohol in her exhaled air. The policewoman said: – Additionally, after checking the police information systems, it turned out that she had never held a driving licence.
The 6-year-old was placed in the care of relatives. The driver will stand trial for the offence she committed. Driving while intoxicated is punishable by up to 3 years in prison.
The officers conclude:
This is another case of extreme irresponsibility that could have ended tragically. The drunk mother, who did not have a driving licence, endangered the life of her child and other road users. There was no tragedy this time, but one cannot always count on a fortunate coincidence.
