The duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski received an unusual report from the Voivodeship Emergency Notification Centre. – The caller, who spoke English, talked about mental health problems but did not want to reveal his location. The findings indicated that he might be staying in one of the localities in Lubomierz commune – explains junior aspirant Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer for the Lwówek Śląski District Police Headquarters. – The police officers’ swift response led to the discovery of a completely different, but equally worrying situation.

Police officers from the Police Station in Gryfów Śląski immediately went to the indicated commune and began intensively checking locations that could have been connected with the report. The spokesperson: – After checking numerous addresses, the presence of the person who had made the report was not confirmed.

That was not the end of it. The policewoman:

During one of the interventions, the door to an apartment was opened by a 10-year-old boy wearing only underwear. The officers were concerned not only by his appearance, but also by the fact that communication with him was difficult – as it later turned out, the child had a disability. They also noticed visible burns on the boy’s hand, so an emergency medical team was immediately called.

The child’s father was in the apartment; at the time, he was asleep and completely drunk. After waking up, he attacked the officers, using vulgar and insulting language towards them. The man was detained and placed in a police cell.

The boy’s mother arrived at the scene and took over his care. After sobering up, the child’s father was charged with exposing a minor to the danger of loss of health or life and insulting public officials.

The spokesperson concludes: – Thanks to the police officers’ decisive and professional response, a tragedy may have been prevented. The case was referred to the relevant social services to continue monitoring the child’s situation.
