On 23 April 2025, the District Court in Bolesławiec sentenced 37-year-old Kamil D., a resident of Bolesławiec County, to 7 years in prison and a lifetime ban on driving all motor vehicles for causing a fatal road accident and fleeing the scene.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec.
– The incident occurred on 22 August 2020, after 10 p.m., in Jurków. Near a road intersection, the perpetrator, driving at excessive speed that was not suited to the road conditions and layout, lost control of the vehicle, crossed to the left edge of the road and entered the lane intended for vehicles travelling in the opposite direction, causing a head-on collision with the injured cyclist, who was travelling properly along that road – explains Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, press spokesperson for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra.
As a result of the collision, the cyclist suffered multiple-organ injuries to the internal organs of the head, chest and abdominal cavity, which resulted in his death at the scene. The perpetrator fled the accident scene.

During the investigation, it was established that the defendant tried to persuade a friend to help him avoid criminal liability by taking responsibility for the incident in exchange for PLN 50,000.
In this case, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec is conducting separate proceedings against him, in which he was charged with inciting another person to give false testimony.
An indictment will be filed against him with the Court in this regard in the near future.
Defendant Kamil D. pleaded not guilty to causing the fatal road accident and fleeing the scene. He refused to provide an explanation. He had previously been sought under a European Arrest Warrant.
At the request of the defendant and his lawyer, the Court of Appeal in Wrocław issued him a letter of safe conduct and imposed a property bail of PLN 150,000.
Prosecutor: – The above-mentioned person had previously been convicted by a court in Germany, including for theft offences.
The judgment issued in this case is not final. The prosecutor intends to appeal it because, in his view, the sentence imposed on the defendant is too lenient.
