The project to increase the minimum wage is based on the assumption that this wage should amount to 55% of the projected average salary. Forecasts concerning future wages in Poland indicate a gradual increase in both average and minimum wages. Infor.pl estimates that in 2026 the average gross salary will reach PLN 9,219, which could result in the minimum wage being raised to PLN 5,070 gross.
The government’s long-term plans assume that the upward trend will continue, forecasting that the gross minimum wage will reach PLN 5,648 in 2028. These projections indicate a potential improvement in the financial situation of workers with the lowest incomes, although the real impact of these changes on purchasing power will depend on the level of inflation and economic growth during the period in question.
Raising the national minimum wage may help reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of the lowest-paid people. Increasing this group’s purchasing power could also stimulate domestic demand and consequently contribute to economic growth.
However, caution should be exercised when assessing the effects of the proposed changes. It is necessary to consider the potential impact of an increase in the minimum wage on the competitiveness of businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, which may face difficulties adjusting to higher labour costs. There is a risk of inflation and rising unemployment if businesses are unable to absorb the additional costs.
